Be careful what you wish for............
Many people dream of a beautiful historic property, full or character and period features, but have you thought at all about how much it’s going to cost to upkeep your beautiful new home in the country ? The heating costs, garden maintenance, cleaners and repair crew can all become a little overwhelming if you’re not prepared for the extra financial commitment a larger property creates. Of course you can refurbish an historic, characterful property yourself and incorporate all the mod cons and fuel efficient technologies but triple glazing and sustainable power systems can be quite difficult to gain planning permission for and expensive to add to existing structures.
If you decide to buy a new build property then the day to day upkeep of heating and lighting are considerably lower because of the new building techniques employed and a greater understanding of fuel efficiency. The ceilings are likely to be higher, often double or even triple height and the natural light maximised by an increased use of glass and space.
There are so many inspired and inspiring architects in the Cotswolds who have been honing their skills for years and are passionate about working with the countryside and environment, it would be such a shame to find your dream home at last then spend the next few years making it fit for purpose rather than enjoying the view.
